Management Effect of Feeding Triticale on the Growth Performance of Crossbred Feedlot Cattle

چکیده
An investigation was conducted to evaluate the management effect of feeding triticale on the performance of crossbred feedlot cattle. Steers were weighed at fortnightly intervals until 83 days. Steers were weighed at 0700hr and fed upon (7 animals/treatment) at weighing on d 0, 20, 40, and 83 of the trial. Measurements were made of daily feed intake, average daily gain, body weight gain and feed / gain ratio. The animals were allocated by randomized block design on the basis of live weight to one of three dietary high concentrates rations of triticale, corn and wheat grain for crossbred feedlot cattle. Average daily gains of steers fed triticale, corn and wheat were1.14, 1.39 and 1.28 kg, respectively, and were significantly different (P<0.05).Daily feed intake was significantly (P<0.05) higher for corn fed steers (8.38 kg) than the values for crossbred steers fed triticale (7.22 kg) or wheat (7.19 kg).Feed gain / ratio even though not significant, but tended to be the best on wheat and poorest on triticale. It is therefore concluded that corn was slightly superior to triticale and wheat as a finishing ration and triticale is potentially an important feed grain in beef finishing rations.

Effect of grain type and processing index on growth performance, carcass quality, feeding behavior, and stress response of feedlot steers.
One hundred sixty crossbred steers (538 ± 36 kg BW) were used in an 84-d experiment with a randomized block design to study the effects of wheat or barley grain processed to 2 different indices on growth performance, feeding behavior, carcass characteristics, stress, and temperament of finishing beef cattle. Treatments were a wheat-based diet (88.4% of diet DM; WH) and a barley-based diet (89% ...

The effects of production system (feeding regime and time on feed) on growth performance, yield and economics and the effects of feeding regime, pre-slaughter treatment and electrical stimulation on meat quality were evaluated. Sixty Bonsmara steers were divided into three treatment groups, viz. feedlot, organic pasture and conventional pasture feeding. The feedlot and conventional pasture grou...

Hip heights were measured on 286 three-breed cross calves at weaning, yearling and slaughter time and on 199 Angus calves at yearling time to study the relationships of hip height with growth, feedlot performance and carcass traits when cattle are slaughtered at an anticipated grade of low choice. Correlations between hip height and weaning, yearling and slaughter weight averaged .56. Yearling ...

Two experiments evaluated effects of ractopamine hydrochloride (RAC) on performance, intake patterns, and acid-base balance of feedlot cattle. In Exp. 1, 360 crossbred steers (Brangus, British, and British x Continental breeding; initial BW = 545 kg) were used in a study with a 3 x 3 factorial design to study the effects of dose [0, 100, or 200 mg/(steer x d) of RAC] and duration (28, 35, or 42...
